Postgame Pulse: Wisconsin basketball vs UW-Platteville
Nolan Winter and Andrew Rohde spoke, along with Wisconsin basketball head coach Greg Gard and UW-Platteville's Jeff Gard, following the exhibition
Madison, WI – An exhibition against NCAA Division III UW-Platteville was too close for comfort for Wisconsin basketball fans throughout Wednesday night. Ultimately, the Wisconsin Badgers managed to put together a handful of complete offensive and defensive possessions late to win by a comfortable margin. Still, it showcased the need for improvement for head coach Greg Gard’s squad.
“There’s a lot of things we took from Friday against Oklahoma, and tonight, a little bit different in terms of the scout and the actions that we guard,” Gard said after the 69-53 victory. “So, there’ll be things that we’ll pull from this film.”
That difference between the exhibition against the Sooners and Pioneers was not only in playstyle, but also in individual performances. Badgers forward Nolan Winter struggled throughout against OU, shooting 5-13 from the field and having four of his shots blocked, but bounced back against UW-Platteville. Winter finished Wednesday night with 17 points on 8-11 shooting and added 15 rebounds.
“I mean, I kind of threw that game out of the window, personally. That wasn’t me,” Winter said of his performance against Oklahoma. “So, moving forward, you know, just, finishing stronger, going into it with the mentality of dunking everything, that’s where I gotta be at. Just a more physical mindset. And, like I said, I threw that game out the window a long time ago. So, I’m moving forward, head high and know what I’m capable of.”
Hear how Winter and guard Andrew Rohde assessed their performance on Wednesday. Then, Platteville head coach Jeff Gard speaks alongside his brother, Greg, about the events of the evening and the importance of the annual Garding Against Cancer exhibition.
