Wisconsin Hockey Weekly: Badgers preview Minnesota State and Alaska
Both Wisconsin Badgers hockey teams are undefeated, ranked in the polls, and host home series in Madison this weekend.
After Wisconsin women’s hockey captured a championship at the 2025 Ice Breaker Tournament, and the men tied Minnesota State twice, two undefeated Wisconsin Badgers teams hit the ice in Madison this weekend. Players and the head coach of each team spoke to the media on Tuesday to preview their team’s upcoming matchups.
With the No. 17/16 UW men’s hockey team’s non-conference series against Minnesota State in the rearview mirror, it is the No. 1 women’s hockey team’s turn against Minnesota State in a WCHA conference matchup. Head coach Mark Johnson, fifth-year Lacey Eden, and junior Kelly Gorbatenko preview that series against the Mavericks and reflect on their tournament championship after beating the Union Garnet Chargers in the final.
The Badger men continue non-conference play on Friday and Saturday against the Alaska Nanooks. Head coach Mike Hastings and defenseman Joe Palodichuk offer their thoughts on Wisconsin’s young season through four games, whether the NCAA should adjust its rules on ties/shootouts, and assess how UW has lifted itself to the second-best scoring defense in the country.

Yeah. It is strange, when my Badger Hockey journey started, there was no PWHL so it was a differeent thing. I was not upset that Pankowski went to grad school, or whatever else. But, now I am fully supportive of them doing what it takes to get that check. But, I want all the Badgers to play with Watts (my favorite hockey player ever) and Compher. I mean, I want Lacey, and Simmsy, and all the rest to get that check. My 84 year old mom is a Juengels super fan.
Simmsy is on TEAM USA. Is that a good sign for her health?
