#2 Wisconsin women's hockey defeats Minnesota State; seeks series sweep today
Five different Badgers scored to give UW a 5-2 victory over the Mavericks
#2 Wisconsin (14-2-1, 11-1-1 WCHA) came out to a hot start against the Minnesota State Mavericks (7-10-0, 5-10-0 WCHA) yesterday. Senior forward Jesse Compher scored 23 seconds into the game to give the Badgers a 1-0 lead. Despite the quick first goal, Wisconsin could not pull away until the third period to defeat Minnesota State by a score of 5-2.
Minnesota State tied the game late in the first period. With 6:20 remaining in the first period, the Mavericks recorded their first shot on goal. Sophomore Alexis Paddington put away the rebound from senior defender Charlotte Akervik.
Wisconsin added two goals in the second period to build a 3-1 lead. However, Minnesota State freshman forward Taylor Otremba kept the Mavericks in it, if only for a short while with an unassisted goal. Badgers freshman forward Kirsten Simms scored less than a minute later, tipping in a shot by freshman defender Laila Edwards to put Wisconsin's lead back at two.

Lacey Eden, a redshirt sophomore forward, buried a rebound to score the game's final goal and secure the Badgers' victory.
